Before we examine the strange happenings in New York, I should present one more point for consideration. Once again, the black ex-slave Sojourner-Truth offers a different version of events. In her testimony of events, Sojourner-Truth refers to misleading statements contained in the writings of Margaret Matthews when she informs us of the following, quote. ‘Mrs. Matthias intimates that her daughter was beaten to compel her to take Mr. B Folger.’ Mrs. Matthias knows that this is incorrect; she knows that she indeed urged her daughter, when at White Planes, to make this charge, but she refused.’ Sojourner-Truth makes a firm stand by saying, quote. ‘Isabella wanted no beating to go to Mr. B. Folger; she was decidedly fond of him.’ (Ref: N79.) From the evidence cited, Isabella, the daughter of Matthias, is happy to share her life with the wealthy Benjamin.
We present information from public domain documents that are almost two hundred years old. This vitally important information is presented in Bold Blue Text. All the blog statements are from the book entitled Sojourner-Truth Matthias & Smith Clash of the Prophets.
